The Shaker Sweater

A classic piece of American knitwear.

A Shaker Stitch is a variation of the Cardigan Stitch, defined by a lofty hand from its two-row repeat pattern. This construction leads to a garment that drapes with ease. The crewneck collar, ribbed cuffs, and fitted waist on our version provide anchors that frame the knit on the body.

The Shakers, or 'Shaking Quakers,' created this knit pattern – a group of Christian pacifists who settled in New York state circa 1774. The Shakers were prolific inventors and designers known for their historic and iconic contributions. This piece of knitwear is especially elegant and smooth while minimal and utilitarian.

100% American Combed Cotton. Wash cold and gentle, lay flat to dry. Made in the USA of domestic materials.

Full throughout the body with a fitted waist and subtle drop shoulder.

Knit in New York City using the latest seamless, whole-garment knitting machine technology. A standard knitted garment consists of separate parts sewn together, but seamless knitwear is produced in one entire piece, similar to a 3D printer, directly on the knitting machine. The knitting process is beyond just setting up a machine and clicking a button though. Each garment is also washed to bring out the softness of the yarn and remove any shrinkage, and then carefully pressed for final delivery.
